Der Kreislauf

"With Der Kreislauf, Katrien Vermeire didn't merely create a penetrating homage to her fellow townsman and pioneer of Belgian documentary cinema Henri Storck (...), but also creates an atmosphere reminiscent of Jacques Tati's Les vacances de monsieur Hulot (1953). The result is a beautiful mix of reality and fiction, observation and imagination, sincerity and play (...)" Exhibition catalogue SOLSTICE, Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent, 2014

In Der Kreislauf (A Handful) (29') Katrien Vermeire depicts a unique game that is played on Belgium’s beaches in the summer months. When the weather is good, one can find colorful flowers for sale in small, impromptu-built shops. But these flowers hate being watered or rained on, as they are made of paper. Der Kreislauf takes an intimate look at the young players.
